The sailor
The sea shaped my way of working. 30 years of marine electronics. 500+ boats equipped. 15+ transats. 0 electrical failure abandonment. NMEA 0183/2000, Signal K, real-time dashboards. Embedded automation: sensors, actuators, alerts. Offshore racing and ocean cruising.
« At sea, there is no "almost":
a system is either reliable, or dangerous. »
Sailing since childhood
I started sailing at age 8. The sea has taught me responsibility, preparation, and risk management under pressure.
Whether racing or cruising, I have faced situations where technology had to work flawlessly in extreme conditions. Salt, humidity, vibrations, electrical shocks.
Embedded technical specifications: 12V/24V power supply, IP67 protection, galvanic isolation, EMI filtering. Multi-constellation GPS antenna, NMEA 2000 + Signal K data bus redundancy.
What the sea taught me
- Redundancy: a single point of failure can be fatal
- Rapid diagnosis: understand and repair under pressure
- Preparation: anticipate failures before they happen
- Simplicity: the simpler, the more reliable
- Humility: the sea does not forgive arrogance
Offshore racing
Offshore racing is the ultimate test for an onboard system. Days or weeks away from any port, with only what is on board as resources. Electronics, power, communication — everything must withstand the challenge.
I have accompanied renowned racers in preparing and securing their boats. Every detail counts when a breakdown can cost the race, or worse.
Ocean cruising
Cruising requires a different approach: robust systems but accessible, maintainable by the sailor themselves. This is where pedagogy meets technique: designing installations that the owner understands and masters.
